I have stayed at the All-Star Sports Resort more times than I have fingers on one hand. For me, the hotel is normally about making sure I have somewhere to sleep, shower, and keep my clothes and not necessarily somewhere I am going to spend a significant amount of time. When I stay at the All-Star Sports resort I’m normally put my money towards other Disney experiences (like a race or a behind the scenes tour) so the resort isn’t as important.
The All-Star Sports Resort and its sister hotels the All-Star Movies and All-Star Music are all located in the same area and are considered Animal Kingdom area hotels. They are value resorts, providing you with fewer amenities, but also are a bit easier on the wallet.
The All-Star Resorts offer rooms with two double beds and a single bathroom. Like other hotels they do have a refrigerator. Each hotel follows a specific theme (sports, movies. music) and they are sectioned for different aspects of that them. The All-Star Sports Resort has basketball, baseball, football, surfing, and tennis. The main pool, Surfboard Bay Pool, is located closest to the main building/food court and then a smaller pool located in the baseball themed area.
The All-Star Sports Resort is the first hotel in the line. If you are visiting a park that shares a bus between the All-Star hotels, then the All-Star Sports is the first to be picked up and the first to be dropped off. This doesn’t happen as often anymore as they have increased buses during peak times, but it does still happen on occasion.

The All-Star Sorts Resort is very reasonably priced and allows guests to have the Disney experience and all of the benefits of on-property lodging, without having to pay a significant cost. Even though you may pay the same as you might at a Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn ($89-$109 per night) you still get to take advantage of free Disney transportation.
Themes at All Star Sports include baseball, basketball, football, surfing, and tennis
The Food Court at the All-Star Sports is pretty decent for food court cooking. When I eat at the All-Star Sports food court I am not expecting five-star food. There are a variety of options including pizza, pasta, hamburgers, hot dogs, roast beef, and salads. Additionally, you can choose a variety of baked goods and frozen desserts. The layout of the food court is decent and allows for a large number of guests to both access the food options and the cash registers. There is also a delivery option to the rooms for full pizzas and a bar that is accessible from the food court and from the main pool with a variety of alcoholic beverages.
Another positive with staying at the All-Star Sports is the proximity to the ESPN Wide World of Sports facility. If you are traveling to Walt Disney World for an event with activities at the Wide World of Sports Facility, it is only about a five-minute bus ride to the complex.
Areas for Improvement
While close to the ESPN complex and Animal Kingdom, it is no less than a 20-minute bus ride to all of the other Disney parks and Disney Springs. This means that you need to allow for travel time when planning your departure for the parks. Be prepared for that longer duration on the ride back to the resort at the end of the day as well. And, buses are the only Disney transportation to and from your resort.
The two double beds is definitely are area for improvement, but with the recent update to Pop Century there is some rumor that the All Star Resorts may get upgraded to two queens also. When you are used to sleeping on a queen bed, sharing a double bed with someone can become very cramped and lead to less than quality sleep. If we have more than two adults in a room at the All-Star Resort we either accept that we won’t sleep as well or we bring an inflatable mattress for extra sleeping space.
While I listed the proximity to the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex as a positive, it also can be something to keep in mind as a potential reason to NOT book the All-Star Resorts. These resorts are often used by groups that are participating in events at the complex, including youth sporting events. The guests at the All-Star Resorts tend to be younger (especially when there are competitions at the ESPN complex) and these guests can be found outside the buildings early in the morning or late at night practicing or leaving for their events early.
When choosing a resort, make sure you know what you want from your resort stay. If you want that Disney experience with Disney benefits for a lower price, than the value resorts are your best choice and the All-Star Sports Resort is a great option.
